Easy answer. Because I was asked. I would never volunteer to show off a pair of my insecurities. The leg-baring outfit was one of two looks I was to model for the Taylor’d for You Fashion show in San Antonio last summer.
However, as the event approached, I almost canceled. I repeatedly scripted in my mind how I was going to tell the talented woman who created the charitable event why I was bailing on her. I wanted to drop out because I thought to myself, I am going to be the most out of shape person on the catwalk!! I can’t do this. I will embarrass myself!
After much angst and realizing I am not a quitter, I got over myself.
So often, women and men put off living life because of self-defeating thoughts.
As humans we have tens of thousands of thoughts a day. And, most of them are the same as the day before. The repeated negative ones are like computer viruses that interrupt and destroy what makes us so special.
A common tendency is to wait to do something until reaching a goal like losing a certain amount of weight or having the right job. That is way too much time wasted! Although I had gained about 15 pounds following my job loss, I put on a spray tan, held my head high and strutted my best walk.
Guess What?? I had a lot of fun! I am writing about this because I know a lot of people miss out because they don’t think they are skinny enough, young enough, smart enough, just not enough! I have lived that mantra through out my life.
It is time to get rid of self-injuring mental messages and step out of the comfort zone with confidence and a sense of adventure. I am glad I did!
By the way, the Taylor’d For You Fashion show is scheduled for June 2020 at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts.
